Pick a "From" Unit
The unit you select in the dropdown is the reference for the value you type. All other units in the category update to show the equivalent. Click any equivalent card to switch to it as the new reference (useful for stepping between units without retyping).
Why Temperature Is Different
Length and weight use simple multiplication: 1 km = 1000 m, 1 m = 100 cm. Temperature uses affine conversions because the scales don't share a zero point. 0 째C is 32 째F, not 0 째F. The formulas:
- 째F = 째C 횞 9/5 + 32
- 째C = (째F ??32) 횞 5/9
- K = 째C + 273.15
Decimal vs. Binary Data Units
For storage and network speed, there are two conventions. The decimal convention (used by hard-drive marketing, network bandwidth) defines 1 KB = 1,000 bytes. The binary convention (used by operating systems and RAM) defines 1 KiB = 1,024 bytes. Both are shown side by side so the discrepancy is visible.
